Freya Mathews (Adjunct Professor of Environmental Philosophy, La Trobe University) published “Ecophilosophy as a Way of Life” in The Trumpeter: Journal of Ecosophy, Vol. 39, No. 1 (2023).

Mathews argues for reviving philosophy’s ancient sense of itself as a lived practice — in the manner of Stoicism or Epicureanism — rather than an academic discipline of argument alone. She positions ecophilosophy as a possible bridge between academic thought and people seeking an authentically Earth-centred way of life outside institutional frameworks: “a radical pathway through the illusions of our current period of decline-and-fall towards a more adaptive life grounded in direct, unmediated contact with the real.”
