An online conversation and experiential exploration with Inna Alex & Br. Tenzin (Dr. Alex Anderson)
*
CONTEXT
In their book “Thinking like a Mountain”, John Seed, Joanna Macy, Pat Fleming and Arne Naess outline a group therapeutic process aimed at healing the perceived rift between ourselves and our world; a rediscovery of the “ecological Self”, and an antidote to the current polycrisis.
On the Buddhist path, we also learn practices that help us untangle views about the Self that lie at the root of our suffering, awakening the heart-mind of compassion and wisdom. In particular, the cultivation of Metta or Loving Kindness, one of the “boundless heart-minds” in the Buddhist tradition, is a powerful antidote to the fear, anger and division which trouble our world today. growing our capacity in this regard is a crucial dimension of the path of the “Peaceful Warrior”, and active participation in The Great Turning.
Br TENZIN ( Dr Alex Anderson) began his path toward Deep Ecology with a doctorate researching the impacts of Climate Change on rainforest biodiversity. Inspired by teachers such as the late Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh, and seeking a more fundamental basis for understanding and connecting to both the human and the natural world, in 2017 he ordained as a monk in the Buddhist tradition. He has since studied and practiced In the Tibetan Sakya tradition, Vietnamese Zen tradition of Plum Village, the Burmese Forest tradition, and holds a Hatha Yoga teaching qualification.
INNA ALEX is a passionate deep ecology facilitator, community organizer, and sustainable living educator. Her earth-based lifestyle in Tui Community, New Zealand, has provided her with many practical skills in permaculture living, organic gardening, healing foods, group facilitation, relationship and women’s work.
